Hands-On Trombone / Dent Machine / Lathe
Our typical Regional Clinic is usually a single day. However, while putting this clinic together, it became quite clear that it will take more than one day to get through all the information. We've added a four hour session on Sunday for you to hone your skills with Dave Snow so he can observe and offer individual instruction.
Trombone Slides Made Easy:
You will learn how to effectively diagnose various situations. Using common sense and having a "plan" before you pick up any tools will greatly assist you with a successful result. This clinic will include soldering techniques, alignment procedures, dent removal methods, proper tool usage, cleaning and buffing and what types of oils and creams to use.
Dent Machines Made Easy:
Most PC shops have the mistaken reasoning that they would not benefit from having a dent machine because they are only for overhaul shops. While they play a very important role in an overhaul shop, and we will explore some of that, you can really justify the cost of having this tool in your PC shop. Learn the many and varied uses of a dent machine (burnishing machine). We will explore how a dent machine can be utilized to perform tasks you haven't been able to accomplish as well as speeding up your work and improving the quality at the same time. It doesn't matter if you are in a one-person or multi-person shop, everyone can all benefit from this tool.
Lathes Made Easy:
No longer considered a "wish list" type of tool, it's becoming more necessary to have some type of a lathe in the repair shop. Trying to obtain parts for instruments seems more difficult and in many cases, parts are just not available. A lathe will assist with making a new part or repair the existing one. In addition to part making, you can tweak an existing tool or fabricate one from scratch. There is just so much more you can do with a lathe in addition to simply sanding tenon corks and woodwind socket replacements.
studied and graduated from Allied Repair School in 1978 then opened Snow Sound Shop in his basement in July. He then worked for a local music store, Music Mart, from 1979 to 1983. He started Blackhawk Music Service in October of 1983. Two years later, he concurrently worked for Allied Music as Service Manager in 1985/86 and grew Blackhawk Music into a full line store with an overhaul shop. In 1997, the name was changed to National Band to focus more on wholesale repair.
David has been a NAPBIRT member since 1978 and has presented clinics at national conferences covering valve rebuilding and service, trombone slide repair, set up and customizing, and dent removal on large brass instruments using old world techniques as well as the new magnetic technologies.
